When is the right time to think about updating your website?
Your website is likely to be the first impression a potential customer has of your business. If it looks dated or it’s not very intuitive for the visitor to navigate, the chances are they will leave and look elsewhere. This is especially true if the visitor is viewing your website on a mobile device and it’s not presented to them in a way that makes it easy for them to view.
Furthermore, it’s not much good having a great looking website if potential customers can’t find you in the search engines, or find the information they are looking for when they arrive on your website.
You should think about updating your website if it:
1) Isn’t mobile-friendly
Viewing websites on mobile devices is overtaking the traditional desktop computer. If your website isn’t optimized for mobile devices you could be losing out on customer conversions and rankings in Google’s search results.
Research shows UK adults now spend more time on their mobile devices than traditional desktop PCs for the first time on record. According to the latest estimates compiled by eMarketer, outside of work, adults will spend an average of 2 hours and 26 minutes online each day on their mobile this year versus just 2 hours and 13 minutes on desktops.
2) Is old and outdated
If your website looks dated, it is the right time to consider a refresh. If the design is dated, the chances are the user experience won’t be as good as it should be. The site could be built using dated technology causing slow load times.
Updating your website just isn’t a design consideration. Content should be updated on a regular basis, so having a website that you can update yourself is key to keeping content fresh. This will help attract visitors as search engines will see the site as relevant and reward with a higher ranking in the search results.
3) Isn’t producing the results you want
Your website has been recently updated and you are pleased with the new look, but for some reason you’re still not getting the customer results. As good as your website looks, if it’s not converting visitors into customers it may be time to look at the user experience and check if the website is optimized for search engines to find it.
